How to get a International Driving Permit in Macedonia?

According to the Vienna Convention of 1968, international driving permit are authorized to be issued by national governments or organizations to which these functions have been delegated. In most countries, this is done by automobile associations affiliated to the AIT/FIA, the police or other organizations. Driving tips for Macedonia:

  • Macedonia is a right-hand drive country.
  • The minimum driving age in Macedonia is 18. If you want to rent a vehicle, you must be at least 25.
  • The maximum permitted speed limit is 60 km/h on urban roads, 80 km/h on rural roads and 120 km/h on highways.
  • The maximum allowed drink drive limit is 50 mg per 100 ml of blood. For novice drivers whose driving experience is less than 2 years, the maximum allowed alcohol level is 0 mg per 100 ml of blood.
  • You are not allowed to transport children under the age of 12 in the front seats.
  • You must drive with dipped headlights on 24/7 throughout the year.
  • Seat belt is a must.
  • Talking and texting while driving is forbidden. Hands-free kit is also forbidden!
  • Make sure you have a fire extinguisher, a warning road triangle, a reflective vest and a towing rope.
  • Studded snow tyres are forbidden.
  • Use winter tyres from the 15th of November to the 15th of March.
  • Do not park your vehicle on the pavement.
  • Change money in advance to pay your toll. Keep in mind that you should pay in local currency and by cash.
  • Spare bulbs are recommended.
  • Pay the fine either at the bank or post office.
