How to get an International Driving Permit in Martinique?

According to the Vienna Convention of 1968, International Driving Permits (IDPs) are authorized to be issued by national governments or designated organizations. In most countries, this function is carried out by automobile associations affiliated with the AIT/FIA, the police, or other authorized entities. To obtain an International Driving Permit in Martinique, you must possess a local license and apply to the relevant authorities here (please notify us if the link is not working).   2. Recognition of the International Driving Permit (IDP)

    As Martinique follows French regulations, it recognizes International Driving Permits (IDPs). Both types of IDPs are accepted: [3]

    • IDPs issued under the 1949 Convention (valid for 1 year).
    • IDPs issued under the 1968 Convention (valid for up to 3 years).

  3. Duration of driving with a foreign license (+ IDP) if resident or non-resident

    • Non-residents:
      - For stays of 20 days or less, a valid driver's license is needed. For longer stays, an international driver's permit is necessary. [4]

      - Holders of a "Student" residence permit, regardless of the country in which the driving licence was issued, benefit from recognition of their foreign driving licence for the entire validity of their "student" residence permit. [5]
    • Residents:
      - A driving license is valid in France for a maximum of 1 year from the start date of validity of the first residence permit in France. [5]
