In most countries, this function is carried out by automobile associations affiliated with the AIT/FIA, the police, or other authorized entities. - Barbados succeeded to the Geneva, 19 September 1949 Convention on 5 March 1971 (d). [1]

- Barbados recognizes International Driving Permits (IDPs).
- The validity term of the IDP recognized is 1 year, as per the 1949 Convention.
Duration of driving with a foreign license (+ IDP) if resident or non-resident
- For non-residents:
  - Visitors can drive in Barbados on a foreign driving license if they obtain a Visitor Driving Permit. [3] [4]
  - The Visitor Driving Permit is valid for 2 months or 1 year, depending on the fee paid:
    - BBD $10 (approximately £3) for a 2-month permit
    - BBD $100 (approximately £31) for a 1-year permit
- For residents:
  - Foreign nationals with permanent residency, immigrant status, reside and work status, or a work permit may be eligible to exchange their foreign license for a Barbadian license. [3] [4]

It is pertinent to note that:

A visitor's permit may be obtained from the Barbados Licencing Authority, located at The Pine, St. Michael or from the Oistins Police Station, Hastings Police Station and Holetown Police Station. Permits are also issued by most car rental companies.
Drivers must keep their foreign driving license and Visitor Driving Permit with them at all times while driving.
The validity period of a Visitor Driving Permit may be limited to the remaining validity of the foreign driving license if it is expiring soon. [3] [4]
