The Rolls-Royce Phantom has long been a canvas for extraordinary bespoke creations. Past special editions include the Phantom Centenary Private Collection celebrating the model’s 100th anniversary, a bespoke Phantom Extended for a Chinese client, the Phantom Dentelle with lace-inspired interior trim for a Middle Eastern buyer, the cherry blossom-themed Phantom Cherry Blossom, the Phantom Goldfinger marking 60 years of the iconic James Bond film, and the Phantom Scintilla featuring ceramic décor and 870,000 hand-sewn stitches.
Now, the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dubai branch has commissioned yet another truly singular masterpiece: the Phantom Arabesque — a car defined above all by its breathtaking laser-engraved hood.

Inspired by Mashrabiya and the Ancient Art of Sgraffito
The intricate pattern adorning the hood draws from two rich artistic traditions:
- Mashrabiya — a classical element of Middle Eastern architecture consisting of ornately carved wooden latticework. Traditionally, these screens allow air to circulate and cool interior spaces while preserving the privacy of those inside, who can look out without being seen.
- Sgraffito — an Italian technique in which contrasting layers of paint are revealed by carefully removing the top layer, creating striking two-tone visual depth.
Blending these two influences into a single automotive surface required five years of experimentation and testing before the technology was perfected.

How the Laser Engraving Process Works
The creation of the Phantom Arabesque’s signature hood involves a highly precise, multi-stage finishing process:
- The hood is first painted in a darker base color.
- Multiple layers of clear lacquer are applied to build up the required coating thickness.
- A lighter top coat is then added on top.
- A complex pattern is laser-engraved to a depth of 145–190 microns, revealing the darker layer beneath.
- The resulting three-dimensional textured surface is then hand-polished to a flawless finish.
The end result is a hood that shifts and shimmers with depth depending on the light — unlike anything else on the road.

Exterior Design Highlights
The exterior of the Phantom Arabesque strikes a bold yet refined contrast:
- Lower body: finished in deep black
- Upper body: painted in elegant silver
- Wheels: polished 22-inch alloys
- Coachline: applied entirely by hand
- Radiator grille: dark chrome with integrated illumination
- Spirit of Ecstasy: the iconic hood ornament is also lit from within

A Bespoke Interior to Match
Inside, the Phantom Arabesque continues its dialogue between tradition and craftsmanship:
- The central section of the dashboard is crafted from ebony wood and features a pattern that mirrors the laser-engraved motif on the hood
- The cabin is draped in gray and black leather throughout
- Details include black seat piping, custom floor mats, and embroidered headrests
Every element of the interior has been tailored to complement the exterior’s distinctive visual language.

Delivered to a Middle Eastern Collector
The Rolls-Royce Phantom Arabesque is a true one-of-one commission — already delivered to its new owner, a private collector in the Middle East. As is customary with Rolls-Royce’s most exclusive bespoke creations, the price has not been disclosed.
