Jaguar is preparing for a luxury electric future, but the engineering division of the British company, TWR, has decided to remind the world of what Jaguars were like in their prime. They have unveiled the striking TWR Supercat restomod, built on the base of the Jaguar XJS coupe. This model was produced from 1975 to 1996, with a total production of 115,000 units.
The body of the original Jaguar underwent significant modifications: it now features an aggressive aerodynamic body kit with flared wheel arches, and all the exterior panels are made of carbon fiber. The headlights and taillights are fully LED, and the exhaust pipes are positioned on the sides to free up space for the massive diffuser. Compared to the original 15-inch wheels, the modern “footwear” has greatly increased in size: 18 inches at the front and 19 inches at the rear.
The TWR Supercat restomod is strictly a two-seater, although the original Jaguar XJS featured a 2+2 configuration. The remaining seats now feature power adjustments, and the trunk space has been expanded. The interior is trimmed in dark red leather with carbon fiber and metal accents. Modern touches include contour lighting, as well as displays for the instrument cluster and media system. The media system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto protocols.
In addition to the exterior panels, carbon fiber is also used for the internal body reinforcements, and the subframes are made from high-strength T45 steel. All of these measures helped reduce the vehicle’s weight by 10%, bringing it down to 1,605 kg. Under the hood, the original V12 engine is retained, but it has been bored out from 6.3 to 6.5 liters and fitted with a supercharger. It now produces 670 horsepower and 730 Nm of torque, a significant increase from the original 285 hp and 431 Nm.
The three-speed automatic transmission has been replaced with a six-speed manual gearbox, which sends all the power to the rear axle. The transmission is complemented by a limited-slip differential, while the double-wishbone suspension is equipped with adaptive shock absorbers. Buyers can also opt for carbon-ceramic disc brakes.
A total of 88 units of the TWR Supercat will be produced — in honor of 1988, the year when the TWR-prepared Jaguar XJR-9 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Both right-hand and left-hand drive versions will be available. In the UK, the TWR Supercat is priced at a minimum of £225,000 ($285,000), with a pre-order deposit set at £35,000 ($44,000).
